Caveat #1: The following table only includes Internet-based courses and programs that are 100% online; it does not include courses and programs that use other media, e.g., videoconferencing, videotape, audiotape, correspondence, etc.

Caveat #2: Degree programs are listed if the HBCU Website asserts that such programs exist. However, if an HBCU does not offer degree programs, its Website must display a list of online courses and this list must be accessible to guests.

Note #1: This table only includes 100 percent online courses because 100 percent online courses can be readily identified by their descriptions on an HBCU's Website. By contrast, "blended" courses contain online components as well as face-to-face components; and "blended" programs mix face-to-face courses with courses that are either "blended" or 100 percent online. Therefore this table does not include any "blended" distance learning courses or "blended" distance learning programs.

Although some distance learning experts believe that blending can produce more satisfactory learning experiences for students and yield higher student retention rates, it is difficult to determine whether a course is "blended" or merely a "Web enhanced" version of a traditional face-to-face course solely from the description of the course on an HBCU's Website.

Therefore the omission of "blended" courses and programs from this table should not be taken as the DLL's preference or endorsement of 100 percent online over blended. Perhaps future editions of this table will include both types of deliveries.
